Unified Dress Code Policy

The Kingston Christian School (KCS) dress code is a Unified Dress Code intended to promote modesty, neatness, unity, school identity, and a learning-focused environment. Students are expected to wear solid navy blue and white clothing that is clean, modest, appropriately fitted, and in good repair.

1. Colour Requirements
   Tops must be solid white or solid navy blue. Bottoms (including pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, leggings, and tights) must be solid navy blue.

2. Logos and Graphics
   Clothing may display non-school logos, graphics, slogans, brand names, patterns, or images no larger than the size of a toonie. The permitted exceptions are official KCS apparel and approved Grade 8 graduation sweatshirts.

3. Layers and Outerwear
   All clothing layers worn during the school day, including hoodies, sweaters, sweatshirts, and quarter-zips, must comply with the Unified Dress Code. Winter coats and seasonal outdoor outerwear are exempt when worn outdoors only.

4. Denim
   Denim of any kind is not permitted.

5. Condition and Fit of Clothing
   Clothing must be clean, non-transparent, appropriately sized, non-faded, and free of rips, tears, fraying, holes, or worn appearances.

6. Length and Coverage
   Shorts, skirts, dresses, and shirts must be modest in length and fit.

   • Shorts and skirts must extend beyond the student’s middle fingertip when arms are fully extended downward.

   • Shirts must fully cover the torso and must meet the waistband of bottoms at all times, including when arms are raised.

   • Undergarments must not be visible.

7. Tops and Necklines
   T-shirts (long or short-sleeved) may be worn provided they are neat and presentable. Tank tops may be worn only if straps are at least three fingers wide. Necklines must be modest.

8. Hats and Accessories
   Hats, hoods, and head coverings intended as fashion wear are not to be worn inside the school except during approved special events or dress-up days.

9. Make-Up and Appearance
   Students should maintain a neat appearance and refrain from excessive make-up or accessories that distract from the learning environment.

10. Non-Uniform Days
    Clothing worn on non-uniform days must still be modest, neat, appropriately fitted, non-transparent, non-faded, and in good repair. Clothing with rips, tears, holes, inappropriate graphics or messaging, pyjama wear, or excessively revealing styles is not permitted. Denim is permitted on non-uniform days and must follow the above guidelines for fit and condition.

11. Labeling of Clothing
    Families are encouraged to clearly label all clothing items with the student’s name.

12. Administration Discretion
    The administration reserves the right to make final decisions regarding appropriate dress and appearance and may require students to change clothing that does not meet the spirit or expectations of the Unified Dress Code.
